Global impacts dent Chinese M&A
Throughout 2022, markets reacted strongly to several global disruptions, such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the Fed’s interest rate hikes, and successive COVID-19 lockdowns, and Chinese outbound M&A fell dramatically.
For instance, outbound China M&A volume for the first half year totaled 103 deals, a YoY decrease of 26.95%. The total value of outbound transactions was US$6.54 billion – a decline of 78.03% YoY.
In response to this dramatic context, the Chinese government launched a stimulus package that included measures to boost infrastructure investment and loans to local government.
